Ice Cream Shops

Cold treats and hot weather are a match made in heaven, and Lafayette's business owners know it. Our local entrepreneurs have made it easy to get a delicious ice cream cone, a scoop of gelato, or an ice-cold root beer float just about anywhere in the city. Stop at one of these ice cream shops and cafes near our Lafayette homes for sale this summer and get ready to discover your new favorite summertime pick-me-up.

  • Borden's Ice Cream Shoppe - 1103 Jefferson Street, Lafayette, LA 70501
From chocolate- and sprinkle-dipped waffle cones to shakes, malts, and floats, Borden's Ice Cream Shoppe has a myriad of different ways of serving everyone's favorite frozen treat. The shop first opened in 1940 when the Borden's brand was rapidly expanding, and it's now the last location still operating under that historic name. They make all their own ice cream and mostly stick to classic crowd-pleasing flavors like chocolate, strawberry, and Rocky Road.

  • Rêve Coffee Lab - 1042 Camellia Boulevard, Lafayette, LA 70508
Rêve Coffee Lab has more to offer than just a great cup of joe. You can also treat yourself to a dreamily delicious cup of their house-made gelato. It's available on its own or floating on top of one of their rich, brewed coffee drinks. Our real estate agents recommend trying their NOLA float, an entrancing drink that combines the dark chocolate and chicory flavors of their signature NOLA style coffee with the smooth creaminess of their gelato and an extra shot of half and half.

  • Carpe Diem Cafe and Wine Bar - 812 Jefferson Street, Lafayette, LA 70501
Carpe Diem's artisan gelato is made fresh every day using quality ingredients like fresh fruit, mint, hazelnuts, and pistachio. They offer small- and medium-sized portions on their standard menu, both of which are served in a cup for easy eating on the go. You can also order it as part of an energizing affogato, a root beer or Coke float, or a milkshake. They sell all their gelato flavors by the pint and in large 33-ounce tubs.

  • Sunday's Soda Fountain - 431 Jefferson Street, Lafayette, LA 70501
Like 1950s-era soda shops before them, Sunday's Soda Fountain primarily serves ice cream as part of more elaborate sweet treats. It's the main ingredient in their custom sundaes, banana splits, and milkshakes, and it shares the spotlight in their soda floats and brownies a la mode. They make all their ice cream in-house and offer several rotating seasonal and signature flavors alongside their classic options. If you're vegan, lactose-intolerant, or just avoiding dairy, they also have a few dairy-free flavors to choose from.

  • Emmy's Ice Cream Bar - 819 E Broussard Road, Lafayette, LA 70508
Emmy's Ice Cream Bar's house-made ice cream can be ordered in cones or cups, in extra indulgent goodies like ice cream nachos and ice cream cookie sandwiches, or in a malt, float, or milkshake. While most of their rotating flavor selection is made up of tried-and-true crowd-pleasers like chocolate, cookie dough, and salted caramel, they're not afraid to go for more unconventional flavor profiles, too. For example, Emmy's Hot and Humid Milkshake is a vanilla milkshake layered with Tabasco sauce and crowned with a puff of whipped cream and a cherry – perfect for fans of the popular sweet-and-spicy combo.

Whether it's a killer ice cream cone, gorgeous green spaces, or abundant job opportunities, life in Lafayette always has something sweet in store.
